The City of Pasadena’s initiative “Pasadena First Local Buyer” includes business outreach to help create youth mentoring and internship opportunities with local businesses. The goal is to introduce workplace environments to local high school youth, exposing teens to careers that may bring interest and create future jobs in the city, emphasizing local hiring.
At ABS, we have partnered with the City of Pasadena to match businesses with PUSD high school students interested in learning about their industries. There are three opportunities for business owners to participate
Guest Speakers
Business owners or staff will visit student classrooms to discuss your business operations, staff positions, and work environment. Bring visual examples of products or services including work attire, company hiring guidelines and expectations. This is a 60- 90 minute commitment at PUSD school sites.
Job Shadow
A small group of students will visit your office location or facility to observe a regular workday environment. Students can be shown individually or in group settings different departments, team responsibilities and observe workplace practices. This is a 3-4 hour commitment on business premises.
Internships
Eligible students meeting internship qualifying criteria will be matched with business owners or staff to learn basic workplace skills and participate in an “apprentice” role. Internship is unpaid with minimum 3 months employer commitment, scheduling a minimum of 2 hours per week during the calendar school year.
